There are many industries that need the services of graphic designers and designers can find jobs from online startups to more established companies who may need help creating images for their marketing needs.
If you’re looking for a job as a graphic designer an important piece of your application is a portfolio of your best work that hiring managers can refer to. Aside from this, you’ll still need a resume to list down your educational and professional background but a job application is not complete without a cover letter.
While your portfolio can help show them how you can do the job, a cover letter lets you explain to the hiring manager WHY you’re a great fit for the job. It’s where you can show them where your talents and their needs intersect.
Here’s a cover letter sample that you can customize for your application. Use it as an inspiration for your cover letter.

Ready Events

Bensenville, IL 60106
Dear Ms. Kappler,
I was delighted to see the opening for Graphic Designer on your website and I would like to submit my application for the position.
My name is Patrick Eliashawn and I have been a graphic designer for AmericaCompares.com for the past three years. AmericaCompares is a price comparison website for insurance companies and I was the one responsible for many of the graphic elements that you see on their website including their logo and I worked closely with the brand managers to develop a brand image and colors that the company still adheres to up to this day. I was also the one responsible for the images that you see on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
Aside from my work at AmericaCompares, I’ve also worked with several companies as a graphic designer on a freelance basis. I have worked with them on projects such as creating brand identities and I’ve also worked with them in creating the visuals for their online presence including their websites and social media channels. I invite you to view my portfolio online which you may see by clicking here.
I know that Ready Events has dozens of events and sports conferences every year and I believe that I can be of great help in helping Ready Events create the visuals that will be needed for marketing these events both online and offline. Aside from helping Ready Events as a graphic designer, I believe my personal passion for trail running makes me a great fit for the company seeing that a third of your events are running events.
I would be happy to discuss the possibility of working at Ready Events further in an interview. I have attached my resume and some examples from my portfolio to this application for your review. You may reach me at (539)-5555-4382 or send me an email at PEliashawn@email.org any time if you have any question about my application or would like to set an interview.
I look forward to your reply,
Sincerely,
Patrick Eliashawn
